At the same time, TikTok's algorithm amplified "nature's Ozempic" content, where wellness influencers promoted berberine as an OTC alternative. The GLP-1 patch was the logical next step in that marketing evolution: take the same ingredients already being sold in capsules, put them in a transdermal patch (a format associated in consumers' minds with legitimate nicotine and hormone therapies), and market them with GLP-1 keywords.
The result is a product category that looks like pharmaceutical innovation but is actually search-engine optimization wrapped in an adhesive bandage. The ingredients are not new. The delivery format (supplement patches) is not new. The only new thing is the branding, which borrows credibility from a class of prescription drugs that has nothing to do with what is inside the patch. This does not mean the people selling these products are necessarily acting in bad faith. Many genuinely believe berberine supports metabolic health (and in oral form, it does, modestly). But the gap between "berberine has some evidence when swallowed at 1,500 mg" and "a patch with 8.75 mg of berberine will help you lose weight through your skin" is a canyon, and the marketing fills that canyon with aspiration rather than data.
